In 1800, three men opened up a flour mill in a village
called Willington Quay in the industrial heartland
of the north east of England. From the outset the
mill house on the site was reputed to be haunted.

Later, the haunting caught the attention of The
Society for Psychical Research, and some of the
world’s leading Victorian paranormal investigators
attempted to solve one of the country’s most
enduring supernatural enigmas.  Although some
advances were made in getting to the bottom of
the mystery, no one was or has been able to
find out why a rather innocent-looking mansion
house was subjected to decades of poltergeist-like
activity, the appearance of bizarre-looking animals
and the attention of a number of competent
mediums and psychics. Until now, that is.

Michael J. Hallowell and Darren W. Ritson have
carried out exhaustive research into the case.
After unearthing rare, archived documents and
gaining access to parts of the haunted location
hitherto unexplored, the authors were, for the
first time, able to piece together astounding aspects
